The Orbicularis Oculi: the main muscle around the eye

 

Muscles around the eye

You can see in this picture the main muscle that surrounds the eye. Yes there are other muscles but this is the most important one. It's lower third is also a large contributor trot he thickness of the folds under the eyes. Other contributors: the actual skin, the layer of fat under the skin and the amount of fluid in the body. All will be reflected in by the infra-orbital folds.
