It's August 2022. Since the beginning of Covid....

...I've been been starting my day (after breakfast and a 20 minute writing session) with 15 to 20 minutes of figure drawing. Below are links to almost two and a half years of chipping away.

...Nothing you yourself couldn't do -- if you make the commitment :-) I'm not sure at what point the technique I developed fell into place, but here's what it involves:

1) tinted paper. I use Strathmore 400 series Toned Tan sketch paper, 80 pound. Medium surface. 9 inch x 12 inch;

2) The iInitial drawings were drawn with Tul ball point pens (my "fancy pens", with the "umlaut" over the U; you can get them at Target); mostly brillaint blue but occasionally black or dark blue or even red or a pinkish hue. I use the 0.7 mm size.

3) Colored pencils: I used only 4 colors:

- General's charcoal white
for highlights. I purposefully avoid crossing over ink or pen lines when applying since each sub-shape on a body has it's own dark areas - as represented by the pen lines - that light does not fall on. So, it's accurate to do that too;

- Prismacolor Primier Tuscan Red (Rouge Toscan PC 937) for the darkest shadows. Its a deep burgundy color and a fairly soft lead that spreads nicely on any paper;

- Yellowed Orange (also called 'Juanatre' PC 1002) - made by Prismacolor Primier. This is for reflcted lights. Can get a little lost on the scanner though. Gotta experiment. Sunburst yellow (Prismacolor Primier PC 917) almost as good;

- Prismacolor Primier Carmine Red (PC 926) for everyhting else (all the middle tones). That's it! Nothing fancy.

Enjoy!

PS - I'm not a web designer. Period. Maybe at one time I was pretty good at this...well, nah...but still it's been 12 or 15 years since I've touched Dremweaver with any regularity. So it ain't fancy - but I'm getting the job done :-) The point is to display the drawings, give you a referance, and most importantly -- get you drawing!. So scroll on down and click on the thumbnails for good sized posts.

* Just for fun, zoom in! On Windows, hit [ctrl] and [+] simultanously. Everytime you hit the + plus sign, you'll zoom in, and
of course if you hit [ctrl] and [-] , each time you tap on the "-" ( i.e. the minus sign), you'll zoom back out...which makes the
screen smaller. There's a fair amount of detail to be seen if you zoom in. Cool! :-)
